it’s a luxury in our busyness to stare off in the distance
some lights help us see others decorate; we need to tell them apart
even though the past is gone, it’s a reminder of what still may come
facing the new year the artist might approach it as a blank canvas
you can’t put a bow on your health and happiness the gifts that matter
we take for granted the work someone else has done that makes life simpler
when we head toward home hopefully the time away holds good memories
between here and there there is probably a way that you will like best
there’s always the chance that what we see happening possibly isn’t.
