we keep ourselves safe by avoiding the shadows or so we believe
if the path is blocked i would hope i have the sense to figure it out
the unexpected is a fact of life yet we don’t prepare for it
probably because i’ve been asleep, but morning comes as a surprise
as structures decay we can see the value in thoughtful construction
our home is the place where we store the life that makes our lives worth living
if you lose the ball stop pretending and admit the game is over
we build protections to defend against the threats that we soon forget
we’re taught to desire order; but it’s the chaos that gives life texture
it doesn’t matter what the temperature is if we can’t feel it
