in a good story we leave out everything we don’t want to say
the story begins with a toasted cheese sandwich left at the bus stop
in the soft focus of the foggy bus window the real world drifts by
the word on the street can be easily ignored amidst the hustle
we catch what we can and try to hold on to it knowing we cannot
not every path will still exist tomorrow travel while you can
when the creek freezes and winter wind slaps your face a new path awaits
the frosted window obscures my view except for where the light breaks though
i want to believe the small orange’s message isn’t cynical
make a decision and then, somewhere down the road you can change your mind
