once, the path was clear but now it will take hard work to find it again
as winter clamps down the frost sees an opening freezing windows shut
like a siren’s song winter’s beauty entices with hidden dangers
in my waking dream the stress of reality can’t get past the trees
the windows rattle as the frost settles in for winter’s deepest freeze
as with the rabbit leaving a trail in the snow so is our journey
we each have our stride some of us have a shuffle and others a slide
on the other side of the locked window, winter taunts me with beauty
winter’s long shadows are cast like a net over landscape and soul
a midwinter rain can only mean: tomorrow will be slippery
